Why subscription boxes? What is your why?
The value of anything in life is subjective. Hence the saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” When looking at clothing subscription services and if they are worth it, you really need to ask yourself why are you considering going through a clothing subscription service vs. ordering online directly from a clothing store?
My why: I choose clothing subscriptions for two reasons. One is that I use it as a reward system. Every 5 pounds I lose I get a new subscription box. Over twelve pounds down equals two subscription boxes. Woohoo!?
Second, I have about as much style as a brown paper bag. Is that a saying? Its what came to mind. Having a stylist send me clothes based on my preference provides me with something I can’t get by looking online at Express.
What are the best and most affordable clothes subscription boxes
There are many out there and I have tried a few. I do have a favorite and I’ll touch on soon why that is. For the sake of simplicity, I stuck with women’s fashion and clothes that you can keep vs. rental clothes subscriptions.

Stitch Fix is my preferred clothing subscription service
The three services I’ve tried are FabFitFun Style box, TrunkBox, and StichFix. They are all solid options, but Stitch Fix has been most on point for me. Clothes are not top of the line, but good quality, which works for my budget.
The Stitch Fix outfits typically check off two important boxes for me. They are versatile – most everything I’ve ever gotten from there can be dressed down or dressed up and I can mix and match most of their clothing items with other items already in my closet.
They also provide pictures that show how the items they send can be paired with other items that may be in your closet. Given my fashion abilities are incredibly limited these are two important pieces.
For example, the Hannah Modal Scuba Blazer was in my box, which is one of my favorites. The texture is so so soft. They show me how I can dress it down with jeans and some flats or how I can dress up over a floral dress with hints of pink in it.
What else I love about StitchFix
They are always using your feedback to make your boxes better. They have a feature when you check out where you note what you like about the piece, how the fit was, etc, and then you can come back and fill this out to mark the combination of items that made this clothing piece the perfect item.
They also added a feature when you sign on labeled “style shuffle” that allows you to quickly give a thumbs down or thumbs up for the items you see.
I gave this one a thumbs down
They understand their customers and once they identify that you like a clothing item, they present you with the same item in different colors. Super smart marketing on their part. Maybe this will be my monthly reward? Instead of a full box, I’ll get one piece of clothing.
Another thing I do love is that they are investing in what matters. No company is perfect, nor are the people that make up companies. I do recall when the George Floyd incident happened and I remember the companies that came out first with tangible action plans. They were one of them.
Then just last week I saw the below on their Instagram. When many have gone quiet they are continuing to work towards what they said they would do in actionable ways. If you scroll through their Instagram you will see the diversity of color, age, ethnicity, and weight. That I respect. That I choose to support with my dollars.
There are no affiliate links, I don’t work with Stitch Fix. Just a girl who is trying to practice self-love who is rewarding herself with cute clothes that make her feel confident. I do have a referral link that can get you $25 and me $25, which if you too are trying to practice self-love, need a confidence boost, or want to reward yourself for goals that you’ve met, then you need a shipment of Stitch Fix.
Have you tried one of these boxes? What do you think?
Check my last haul. Loved everything and kept every single item. As an added plus, I think all of these will still fit when I’m 15 pounds less!

I’ve always wondered about these! I might try Stitch Fix now. Thank you so much!! The clothes look lovely! 🙂
Thank you! ? If you wind up trying one let me know what you think.
This is a great review of stitch fix! I’ve been loving similar boxes but haven’t tried them yet!
Let me know if you try them. I really like theri selection, quality and customer service.
I just got my first stitch fix and loved it all!
Yay ? So happy to hear you loved everything!
Interestingly enough, I just started with Stitch Fix. And, like you, I have the brown paper bag thing going. I love that it gives you basics and then adds something fun, maybe that I wouldn’t wear, but looks great. I also love how they put together items that would look good with what you have bought. It is fun. And it’s a reward. I am loving it so far.
Yay! I’m so glad that you like it. Yes to the part of getting something you normally wouldn’t wear, but looks great and pushed you outside of your comfort zone. I was pretty much a gray and black clothing girl before trying out StitchFix, must be tied to the brown paper bag thing. Now I will wear florals and brighter colors.
I also have about as much style as a brown paper back!!! I’ve thought about Stitch Fix and what a great way to reward yourself!! You look awesome in all of the outfits so congrats on losing weight. I bookmarking this post for future reference when I take the plunge to join.
It is nice to be in good company ? Thank you so much! It’s been a journey, but well worth the effort. When you think you are ready let me know. At times, typically right after I get a box I will have a limited time (like 48 hours) to offer a link that provides a $100 credit, which is amazing. I can email you when I get that link, just let me know.
